Maybe I'm Just Getting Old

Maybe I'm just getting old but people these day, in general, are rude.

The other day I was the gym. I went into the men's locker room and held the door open for a guy coming out. He didn't say a word. He just walked right past me. No, "Hey thanks man." Or, "Preciate it." Nope. Nothing. Not even a head bob. A similiar thing happened to me a couple days before that. Two boys, one maybe 12, the other 9. They looked like brothers. I held the door for them and didn't get a word from either of them. Didn't their dad teach them anything?!! Didn't he say, "Respect your elders boy," like my dad did. I caught myself saying, "Punk kids," under my breath. I felt an 80 year old. I wanted to stop them and say something that started with, "You know.. Back in my day... "

Another example is when I'm driving somewhere and two lanes turn into one. Now if I'm the merger, I make sure I wave to the person who let me in. They didn't have to. They could have been that jerk that pulled up within an inch of the car in front of them. Or the driver who pretends not to see you and refuses to look at you while your glaring at them. And when I let someone merge in front of me, I expect a wave. If I don't get it, it pisses me off. And if it's morning rush hour, well that just sets my day off in the wrong direction.

All I'm saying is everybody just seems so wrapped up in themselves and their busy lives these days, that nobody's nice anymore. I mean, Oklahoma may be an exception as a whole, but maybe that's changing. You go almost anywhere else in this nation and a kind word and common courtesy are hard to find. A friend of mine from out of town said the first time he had an Oklahoma waitress say, "You want sweet or unsweet tea sugar?" he thought she was hitting on him. The truth is, she was just being nice.

We need to teach or kids and others to be respectful and put others first. I'd rather have someone say I'm too nice, than have someone call me a jerk.

Now, that being said I APPRECIATE you taking time to read this blog. THANK YOU and have a wonderful day. And I hope you will acknowledge the next person who is nice to you. Maybe you can be that nice person. Who knows.
